This week's video focuses on one of the two most specific forms of therapy performed for trichotillomania and other Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors, or BRFBs, something called Acceptance And Commitment Therapy, or ACT.
Acceptance And Commitment Therapy absolutely has its virtues.
This is why one of the core elements of ACT is in fact a major part of the work we do here at the Trichotillomania Relief Specialists.
That said, in our opinion, ACT as it is commonly practiced in the conventional mental health community is limited in significant ways.
We'll discuss these limitations in this week's video.
It's also why we've taken what we believe are the beneficial elements of ACT, put our own stamp on them, and made the appropriate adjustments such that those limitations are now no longer an issue.
Curious about ACT as a possible avenue of treatment for yourself or a loved one?
Then be sure to check out this week's video before making any firm decisions.

If you or your loved one suffers from trichotillomania, plain and simple, you deserve to know what your treatment options are.
This video begins a series in which Trichotillomania Relief Specialists™ co-Founder and Executive Director Robert Mantell reviews the most commonly used forms of treatment or therapy for trichotillomania.
We’ll start the series with a description of what may well be the most ubiquitous form of treatment for trichotillomania, standard talk (or “insight-oriented”) therapy.
Like virtually all other commonly accepted forms of treatments for trich, talk therapy has its place and can benefit the trichotillomania sufferer in a variety of ways.
On the other hand - at least as it relates to trichotillomania - it has at least one major drawback as well.
And that may be enough to complicate a given client’s recovery.
Curious about the pros and cons of standard talk therapy for trich? Check out this week’s video. :-)

Don’t have time to take a break from work?
If so, you’re like thousands of other trichotillomania sufferers who have decided the same thing. And your hair-pulling has probably been made all the worse as a result.
In this week’s video, Trichotillomania Relief Specialists Executive Director Robert Mantell reveals that a break from work doesn’t actually have to be LONG break.
Surprisingly, research has shown that even shorter breaks, when taken regularly, can benefit you nearly as much.
Check out this week’s video for some super-helpful tips on how make “micro-breaks” the break you’ve been waiting for.

• “Energy flows where your attention goes.”
• “We become what we think about.”
Maybe you’ve heard sayings like these before.
If so, consider them a crucial reminder of just how important it is to remain mindful of the places you allow your mind to wander.
For example, if you or a loved one are a trichotillomania sufferer, it’s a fair bet to assume you spend a lot of your time thinking about what it’s like to have trichotillomania.
… And not just “having trichotillomania”, but the pain you are so often forced to endure as a result.
While this is 100% understandable, if the above quotes are accurate, you may for the first time begin to realize the cost of allowing yourself to continue to wallow in such thoughts.
Yup… you’re likely to continue getting more of what you’ve always gotten.
So how can you turn this around - including your very challenges with trichotillomania itself - using the very same power of thought?
Simple. Do the same thing you’ve BEEN doing - but in the...
The “Trich Trance”… If you or a loved one have suffered with chronic hair-pulling for any length of time, chances are you’re familiar with this term.
But what exactly IS the “trich trance”… Is there really such a thing?
I mean, is it even possible to pull hair after hair after hair out of your body - without even noticing you’re doing it?
And how could someone be expected to exercise choice over - and therefore take control of - a behavior they don’t even realize they’re doing??
Turns out there’s a way… A very effective way.
… A way of helping foster awareness of this behavior that - interestingly - NEVER FAILS. And that’s crucial because you can’t exercise choice over a behavior you don’t even know you’re doing, right?
Curious how to create almost universal awareness of such behaviors from now on? Then check out this week’s video.

What do you think?

If you’re like most of our trichotillomania clients, you’ve found yourself wondering what the heck makes you keep doing this thing you KNOW you really hate doing - pulling your hair, your eyebrows or your eyelashes - but just can’t seem to stop.
In this week’s video, Trichotillomania Relief Specialists™ co-Founder and Executive Director Robert Mantell pulls back the curtains on this mystery, revealing the unconscious processes that propagate continued hair-pulling, eyebrow-pulling and eyelash-pulling - even though (consciously) you wish you could stop.

Most of us watched the video of Will Smith attacking Chris Rock last weekend for his perceived slight of Smith's wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith.
As far as I could tell, the rest of the Oscars - not to mention the rest of this past week - was all about Will Smith and Chris Rock... How did they feel about what happened?
How did everyone around them feel?
... It was NOT about the Oscar winners, whose perhaps once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shine last week were completely overshadowed by a totally unforeseen controversy.
And it was certainly not about Jada.
A bit of background - you may or may not know that Jada has been very public about her struggle with a condition known as alopecia.
While the cause(s) of alopecia are not well understood, it is generally considered to be a natural form of pattern hair loss.
It occurs in about 50% of men and about 25% of women, and of course, it becomes more common with age.
While there were certainly those who came to her defense, the ...
Have you or a loved one been suffering with trichotillomania (compulsive hair-pulling)?
If so - and especially if you’ve been challenged with trichotillomania for any significant length of time - you may have found yourself feeling incredibly frustrated with the situation.
And if you’re like most of those who call us for help, the longer it’s gone on, you may have turned some of that frustration inwards, directing your anger at yourself for your own perceived weakness.
In this week’s video, Trichotillomania Relief Specialists™ co-Founder and Executive Director Robert Mantell exposes the danger in blaming oneself for their continuing challenges with hair-pulling.
Most importantly, you’ll learn what you can to do to turn this kind of thinking around for yourself. In doing so, you’re likely to feel better - and as a result, you may even find yourself pulling less than you used to.
