Have you ever wondered why it feels like such a struggle to stay away from hair-pulling for more than just a short period of time?
Many with trichotillomania do.
Ever wonder why it feels like such a struggle to STOP pulling your hair once you’ve begun? Many with trichotillomania do.
It turns out there’s a very good reason why this is the experience for so many with trichotillomania who struggle with hair-pulling.
And it has its roots (ugh - there’s that metaphor) at the unconscious level.
… Which also explains why you probably had no conscious idea what’s been going on with this until now.
Once you understand the basis of the struggle to keep from pulling your hair, you become empowered to do something about it.
And that’s exactly what we’re out to do for you in this week’s video.
If you or a loved one with trichotillomania struggles to not pull hair, check out this week’s video to learn the basis of that struggle, and one great way to minimize - or even altogether el...
One of the first things we do when we begin a new program with our clients is to explore the reasons they believe they haven't stopped pulling yet.
Why? Because that gives us a very clear window into their thinking... What Glei and I call their "model of the world".
You can imagine that the answers we receive can be quite different.
And they are... but they're not unlimited.
They tend to be variations on a theme. Things like:
Some will come right out and say,
"Because I can't help it... That's why!"
And here's the thing... Whether or not these are the actual, real reasons why our clients continue to pull, we know they sure feel real for the client.
Meantime, after more than 15 years in the trenches with hundreds of trichotillomania sufferers from around the world, we think we've developed a certain amount of insight into what's REA...
Our children are famous for giving us a hard time anytime we try to talk them about their problems.
Have you also found this to be the case?
Nowhere is this more true than with a child who has been suffering with hair-pulling and trichotillomania, and simply refuses to have a discussion about it. And if you attempt to push it, your child blows up and finds any way possible to avoid the topic.
On the one hand, you’d think a child who’s genuinely suffering with trichotillomania would be all too willing to discuss ways they can possibly end this challenge.
But on the other hand, that’s not what you see… Instead, your child who’s been pulling her hair simply will not engage. They seem to give you a hard time any time you bring it up.
What’s going on with this? What’s the underlying psychology here?
And as the caring, loving parent, what can you do to help encourage a change?
Check out this week's video to learn all about it.

We hear it again and again...
"If only I didn't have to struggle so much with those urges to pull, it would be so much easier not to!"
Truer words were never spoken.
After all, why else would people do something like pull hair out of their body when the truth is, they HATE what they're doing to themselves?
Now, while some people have convinced themselves the opposite is true - that they actually LIKE pulling their - the truth is, all hair-pullers detest having to struggle with this kind of challenge.
So what if there were a simple way to greatly minimize your urges to pull, thereby making it far easier to avoid it?
What if there were a simple, straightforward change you could make to how you live your life each day, which if you made it, could powerfully enhance your sense of choice and control over your pulling activity?
Wouldn'tcha know it... Turns out there IS something you can do.
And wouldn'tcha know it... We're here to tell you what that is. ;-)
But a warning be...
We were just kind of rummaging around through some of our past work, and we came across this video we created in 2016, which for some reason, we just never got around to publishing.
In spending a few minutes with it, it quickly became apparent that the topic addressed in this video is every bit as relevant now as it was five years ago when we recorded it. Thus our choice to publish it today.
And that is, that LIFESTYLE - stressful, hectic, balanced, or bland - is the key element in a person’s life that determines whether they are likely to develop stress-related coping behaviors like hair-pulling.
Plain and simple, hair-pulling is a stress-coping mechanism. Where a person’s life is relatively stress-free, or when a person is able to manage their stress load resourcefully, we rarely see such troubling stress-coping behaviors.
When the opposite is true... Well, you probably know how that goes.
This video features the story of a client, a woman in her mid-30’s. She’s been pulling fo...
So you’ve gone 5, 6, 7, maybe 10 days or longer without any pulling at all… Maybe it’s been weeks since you’ve pulled.
But then, the inevitable happens. In a moment of weakness, you pull some hair - perhaps without even having noticed it.
If you’re like most of our clients, the first thing you’re thinking is,
“Now I’ve gone and done it! I’ve just ruined my streak. All that work for nothing!”
Problem is, the next thing you’re thinking is,
“Well, then... Might as well just keep going. I’ve already blown it! Nothing more to lose now.”
Thus, you give yourself permission to go right back to your pulling activity, just the same way you were doing before you’d stopped.
Let’s get clear about something: You’re going back to pulling NOT because somehow your ability to be Trich-Free all of a sudden disappeared.
No, you’re going back to pulling because you’ve just given yourself permission to do that.
Why? Because you see no point in making any other decision. After all, your str...
